About The Northern New Jersey Project:

Three year project, Oct. 2006 to Sep. 2009

The first-year project design includes participation of 45 middle and high school teachers in a year-long emphasis on the ideas and events that were instrumental in the American Revolution and in the construction, ratification, and implementation of the U. S. Constitution. It includes a two-week summer residential seminar hosted by the James Madison Program on the campus of Princeton University and three half-days of professional development activities during the academic year.

The second year of the Seminar, again for 45 teachers, will deal with the great constitutional issues and transformations that attended the Secession Crisis and the Civil War and will be structured like the first year.

The third year will focus on the 20th and 21st century constitutional and cultural conflicts that have accompanied the Civil Rights revolution and the Supreme Court's jurisprudence in cases pitting personal autonomy against private and public morality. Again, there will be a two-week summer seminar for 45 teachers and accompanying professional development activities during the year.
