NAS Welcomes Spencer Kashmanian as Development Associate

Peter Wood

I am delighted to announce the National Association of Scholars’ newest team member: Spencer Kashmanian began as development associate in May 2016.

Spencer graduated from The King’s College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics, philosophy, and economics. His senior thesis was titled “Natural Law, Reason, and History in Edmund Burke’s Political Thought.”

Spencer began at NAS in June 2015 in an internship as a development assistant. As he begins as a full-time NAS staff member, Spencer will be responsible for managing and executing NAS’s efforts to raise financial support for our work. He will work closely with me and NAS executive director Ashley Thorne on proposals, direct mail fundraising, and cultivating relationships with donors. He will also work with us on recruiting and serving NAS members. He brings a love of truth, beauty, and the Western tradition, as well as genuine care for the scholars and donors who represent NAS. Spencer is also a skilled classical pianist who won a scholarship to the University of Miami’s summer music camp on the basis of his interpretation of Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in C-sharp minor.

Here’s what Spencer has to say about beginning at NAS full-time:

Burke famously wrote that the individual is foolish, but the species is wise. If we want to live well today and pass on good things tomorrow, we have to study the past. When we study and appreciate great books and enduring ideas, we have access to a far greater deposit of wisdom than any single person or generation could ever discover. That is why I stand with Burke, and that is also why I stand with the NAS. The NAS upholds liberal learning and civil debate as the pillars of a free and ordered society. I am thrilled to support the mission of the NAS by working on development and fundraising.

Please join me in welcoming Spencer to the NAS staff. He may be reached at [email protected].
