On Minding the Campus today, I offer a reply to Georgetown professor Patrick Deneen, who recently wrote there that he found it troubling that there seems to be an increase in libertarian thinking among college students.
I'm not convinced that there is really a libertarian trend, but there ought to be. Young Americans are looking at an increasingly dismal future thanks to the ever-expanding federal Leviathan and once they figure that out, turning away from the notion that more government is the solution to our problems is natural. That does not, however, mean that they'll be entirely self-absorbed and lacking in civic commitment, as Deneen suggests.
