Plague Day

Robert Maranto

We’re entitled to sleep late on plague day

after all we can’t go out and play

They’ve closed the restaurant, beaches, and café

Johns Hopkins posts new cases every day

Blue collar people have to work away

It’s tough to be essential, others say

At Tyson, Hunt, and Walmart they must stay

Soldiers go patrolling night and day

The mayor tells us we have to go away

the bailout comes tomorrow, not today

unless we’re rich enough to pay to play

and then the government will find a way

The Internet is leading some astray

in porn and violence they have lost their way

with games that tally up the bloody fray

Johns Hopkins posts new cases every day
