NAS Elects a New Chairman and Treasurer

National Association of Scholars

NEW YORK, NY, February 28, 2019 -- The National Association of Scholars is proud to announce that its Board of Directors has elected Dr. Keith Whitaker as its new Chairman. The Board also elected Thomas Davis Klingenstein to serve as Treasurer. NAS welcomes these changes and is pleased to present the outcome of this vote to its membership.

Keith Whitaker is President of Wise Counsel Research, a charity that produces educational resources on family wealth, philanthropy, and family enterprise. Dr. Whitaker received his Ph.D. in Social Thought from the University of Chicago and his B.A. and M.A. in Classics and Philosophy from Boston University. Prior to his work at Wise Counsel, Dr. Whitaker served as a Managing Director at Wells Fargo Family Wealth, an adjunct professor of management at Vanderbilt University, an adjunct assistant professor of philosophy at Boston College, and as special assistant to the President of Boston University. Dr. Whitaker has written extensively on philanthropy and other issues for the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Financial Times, Claremont Review of Books, and Philanthropy Magazine. He is the author of Wealth and the Will of God and A Journey Into Platonic Politics: Plato's Laws, and co-author of six additional books.

“The National Association of Scholars lost a wonderful chairman with the passing of Herbert London. It was a challenge to find someone who was as able and learned as Herb, and we’re thankful that Keith was willing to take on the role,” said NAS President Peter W. Wood. “He brings extraordinary experience and wisdom to his new position. The NAS staff and I will be delighted to take advantage of Keith’s good judgment as we work to defend free inquiry and the search for truth in American colleges and universities.”

Thomas Davis Klingenstein is the Founder and Principal of Cohen, Klingenstein & Marks, a New York City investment firm. In addition to serving on the NAS’s Board of Directors, Mr. Klingenstein is a member of the Board of Directors of the Claremont Institute. He received his B.A. from Williams College. Mr. Klingenstein writings have appeared in The American Mind, American Greatness, and The Claremont Review of Books.

“The National Association of Scholars is thankful that it can draw upon such a talented Board of Directors. With the election of Thomas Klingenstein as the Treasurer of the Board, NAS can take advantage of his decades of success as an investor,” noted Dr. Wood. “NAS looks forward to bigger and better things thanks to the service of Dr. Whitaker and Mr. Klingenstein.”
