C-SPAN Airs Launch of Drilling Through The Core

National Association of Scholars

NAS President Peter Wood and NAS Board Member Sandra Stotsky appeared September 28 at the National Press Club on C-SPAN's recording of the panel discussion that marked the Pioneer Institute's launch of Drilling Through the Core: Why Common Core is Bad for American Education, which was edited by Peter Wood.

In his introduction, Peter Wood summarized NAS's concern about the Common Core: that while it purports to make students college ready, "it's a false advertisement, it doesn't do that, it lowers standards." Sandra Stotsky spoke later on the Common Core's content-free English standards, which focus almost completely on reading skills without tying them to literary or historical knowledge.

Other panel members included Williamson Evers, James Milgram, and Ze’ev Wurman.
